What changed in Bittensor

Changes to Bittensor itself, not to any one subnet. This is the part that normally arrives as code and proposals, so we write it out in plain English first. If you have never read a commit in your life, this page is for you.

Emissions are being rebalanced towards subnets people actually use

Only proposedBig deal

Bittensor pays out TAO every day, and that money is split between the subnets. Until now the split leaned heavily on votes, which meant a subnet could earn well without many people using it. The change ties more of the payout to real usage. Build something people use and you earn more. Build something nobody touches and you earn less, however popular you are with voters.

Why this matters to you

If you hold TAO or are staked to a subnet, your returns start to depend more on whether that subnet is genuinely being used. It is worth looking at what the subnets you are staked to actually do, because activity now matters more than reputation.

The technical version

Adjusts the emission weighting function to increase the contribution of validator-reported usage metrics relative to stake-weighted consensus, phased over N tempos.
